Boo! Day 8
by John Jazwiec

I guess we got our answer. Day 8 was no different from the past 7 days.

Wednesday - Deputy AG - who is acting AG due to Sessions recusing himself - names ex-FBI Director Muller as Special Counsel. The US Department of Justice, while it is a part of the executive branch, is nonetheless independent and thus doesn't require a president's permission. As reported, the Deputy AG gave the WH a heads up right before he made his announcement.

It should be noted that the president has the right to fire his AG and his Deputy AG. Of course he would have to nominate new replacements. But terminating the acting AG - the Deputy AG specifically - would take the crisis to another level.
